My first real post, woo. A few weeks ago an extremely nice member of the Fish Forum sent me four bettas. She breeds show quality bettas and apparently gives away the fry she doesn't want and doesn't want to bother selling; all I had to do is pay for shipping and provide them with a good home! I originally just hinted that I was interested in the mini betta she had posted a thread about, but I ended up getting Asmoday, Mini, Sitri, and Valefor! Is she awesome or what?!

Another member of the forum let me "borrow" a very small betta to breed with Mini to see if Mini's size is genetic. At first we thought Mini was a male and Lil (the fish she sent me) was female, but as it turns out, Mini is a female... and luckily enough, Lil is a young male!! I'm working on breeding them, and though they've already embraced (the betta version of the horizontal tango,) Mini didn't release any of her eggs, which are clearly visible through her translucent skin. I separated them for a while, but now they're back together again, so fingers crossed I'll get eggs this time. If not, I have a small crown tail male coming from the same person who sent me Mini, so there's another potential mate if Lil doesn't work out. The same person also sent me some live food cultures for my bettas, so now the adults have a more varied and healthy diet (springtails and white worms,) and Mini's future fry will have some yummy food as well (microworms.)

I'm becoming overrun with fish, but I really do enjoy it. It's a fun hobby. Doing everything I can to keep my fish healthy and happy can be a challenge at times, and it gives me something to do on those boring afternoons.
Speaking of having something to do, I'll be plenty busy if Mini does ever produce fry... I'll have to keep their water crystal clear and feed them about 5 times a day!! I guess that's better than having a human baby to look after though, hah!

I really must be going completely insane, considering how much time it took me to make this thing. It's not done quite yet, but I figured I'd go ahead and launch it, since the basic layout is complete. I'm also going to make a site for the other species of fish I keep, and possibly one for my other pets as well(but I doubt it.)

Boredom is a good motivator, that's all I can say.
